TASK

Concept Design Review (CoDR) of Fixed-Wing Electric Aircraft Certification Program

SCOPE

Concept design development included developing design concepts for both hybrid and electric configurations, supported by EIS schedule projections aligned to assessed technology readiness. This effort was informed by a technology readiness assessment, with specific evaluation of the energy storage system (ESS) and the propulsion system.

METHOD

Concept design development encompassed the engineering design of multiple hybrid and electric configuration options, along with certification plan development and EIS schedule definition. The effort included evaluation of energy storage system (ESS) and propulsion system design and performance data. These technical activities were supported by analysis of market competitiveness, technology readiness, and a quantitative risk assessment comparing all configuration options.

OUTCOMES

The summary of findings addressed market competitiveness, business case suitability, capabilities gap assessment, and overall technology readiness. Based on these insights, recommendations were developed along with risk mitigation plans focused on engineering approach, organizational design, funding requirements, and alignment to the EIS schedule.
