If you missed it , this was the unveiling of almost 100 feet long NASA X-59 supersonic aircraft for the Quesst mission to test quieter supersonic technology. It is expected to cruise at Mach 1.42 (937 mph) at an altitude of 55,000 ft (16,800 m), creating a low 75 Perceived Level decibel (PLdB) thump to evaluate supersonic transport acceptability.   The ground noise is expected to be around 60 dB(A), about 1/1000 as loud as current supersonic aircraft. This is achieved by using a long, narrow airframe and canards to keep the shock waves from coalescing. NASA : Together with Lockheed Martin, we've unveiled our new X-59 supersonic plane. NASA Glenn researchers are working to shrink the core of jet engines in order to gain fuel efficiency for commercial aircraft. One aspect involves testing materials that are suited to withstand the heat of a smaller engine core. #aviation #aeronautics #aerospace #aircraft
